3 hours total of your time THIS Thursday night is all it takes to make a difference in Broward County. Seriously.
Please join Broward Organized Leaders Doing (BOLD) Justice Thursday, April 3rd @ 7:30-9:00pm (registration begins at 6:45pm) at Saint Mark Catholic Church 5601 S Flamingo Rd in Southwest Ranches. We are tackling some serious problems in our community and we will be offering viable solutions to our elected officials whom have been invited to this event. And all you have to do is be there to show them that you care about these issues too. It’s that simple. Sit in a room with 1,800 other people who care about the same thing and stand BOLD for social justice.
Thank you for your support.
· Elementary School Reading
44% of children in 3rd grade in Broward County Schools cannot read on grade level.
Dillard Elementary School launched Direct Instruction in August 2013. We will receive a progress report from them.
67,000 people in Broward County are unemployed.
We are seeking a job ordinance that will encourage local hiring by companies that contract with the county for $250,000 or more, requiring exclusive interviews with qualified Broward candidates for the first 5 days.
· Criminal Justice
In 2012, Florida arrested 73,371 youth for non-violent offenses. Over the last 5 years, Florida arrested 4,839 children between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. These children receive criminal records that keep them from getting jobs and college scholarships later in life.
We are joining 9 other justice organizations in Florida to launch a statewide campaign to reduce youth arrests by diverting non-violent offenders to community based civil citation programs, that have better rates of success at changing behavior, save money and do not leave children with a criminal record.
